Sarah Carr Original Pastel Paintings
About Sarah Carr
Sarah Carr has evolved her own very distinctive style of painting in pastel on sanded paper. Her pieces show a bold and confident execution, combining elements of plein air style with a beautiful impressionist palette and what has been called "perfect composition". She is drawn to "a certain viewpoint – a specific relationship between shapes and spaces". She then creates textures of light, shadow and reflection that transcend ordinary landscapes.
Sarah's formal education in art includes a BA in Studio Art from University of California, Santa Barbara and an MAE (Masters of Art Education) from Rhode Island School of Design. Sarah taught art in the Santa Barbara secondary schools; Dos Pueblos High School and Goleta Valley Junior High School for 35 years.
"I have a deep appreciation of the uniquely beautiful, natural landscape of the Santa Barbara area, which I have been painting for the last half century. When I paint, my intention is to capture both the peacefulness and the liveliness of what I see in our local environment. My work has been influenced by the Impressionists and Post Impressionists, including Monet, Pissaro, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Cassatt, Degas, and Cezanne."
